Darris is the youngest of the Templar. His early years as a mentally handicapped child were especially difficult due to the obvious obstacles that allowed him to grow as a person. His life was cut short by a jealous patient whos deep and violent psychosis escaped the scruitinity of his doctors. Like all Templar, when he was ressurected all ailments were eliminated, including the retardation. His new mental capacities were expanded far beyond the average human and gave him the freedom to become the Mr.-smarty-pants he always wanted to be.
In his short 830 years in the legion, he rose to become the most powerful of them all and touted by some as the superior warrior. His instructors discovered that he was able to move beyond the conventional teachings and in turn brought many new standards to the Templar practice.
There is still a lot that the Templar don't know about him, such as the number of souls he contains, but what annoys them the most is his reluctance to divulge his last name. No one knows why he does this.
