The Templar have little information on the Skein. In fact, there is almost no history of them at all due to their elusive nature except for a few rare incidents. The only significant historical fact is a reference of an involvement in a major war of unknown circumstances, 10 billion years ago. This would imply that the Skein are one of the universes oldest races and therefore would be safe to assume that they are highly evolved and highly technologically advanced.

Their homeworld's whereabouts is unknown but some races believe that there may be an area of "ultraspace" where the Skein may have moved. The Templar would have denied the existence of the Skein all together had one of them not experienced an eyewitness account. The Templar who witnessed the Skein described it as “extremely nimble, even for it’s size. It’s head resembled a mixture of ram and dog. It’s frame paralleled the mechanical with dual-tails tipped with bony knives. It attemped to penetrate my mind but upon realizing my defences it quickly retracted and escaped. Eventhough our psychic connection was short, it left me with one clue to who it was, the Skein.”
